The ILC-16 is a 1U rack mountable interlock controller designed to ensure laboratory and equipment safety. It has 16 fiber optic input channels, each of which can be independently turned on and off by the user. A fault condition on any of the active input channels will disable the Ready output, and the output will stay disabled until the reset command is given. When the Ready output is disabled, control signals are prevented from passing from the Enable input to the Enable output. Thus any equipment being operated by the Enable output will cease operation. Less than 100 ns will pass from the time a fault is detected to the time the Ready and Enable outputs are disabled. All channels use active high logic to ensure robust reliable operation, even in the event of a system or power supply failure.

The ILC-16 is used to detect both slow speed interlock signals and high speed fault signals. In one application the ILC-16 allows for extremely fast Integrated Power Module protection in the event a fault is detected. IPM protection might mean immediate system shut down, closing, and/or immediate bank dumping. The sub 100 ns propagation delay allows for many actions to be taken before catastrophic IPM failure results. This is particularly important with series IPM arrangements.

The ILC-16 uses standard 2.2 mm plastic fiber that is simply cut to the needed length. No special fiber termination or polishing is required. It is designed to interface with all EHT fiber optic receiver and transmitter products and power supplies.
